Visa Requirements

Third-country nationals (all countries except EEA member states) that wish to enter the Republic of Slovenia and/or stay here for study purposes, are required to obtain a visa at a diplomatic mission or consulate of the Republic of Slovenia abroad prior to entering the Republic of Slovenia. Students can enter the Republic of Slovenia and stay here for a certain period of time (90 days) only on the basis of your passport if you are a citizen of a country whose citizens are required to obtain a visa to enter the Republic of Slovenia.

Temporary Residence Permit for Students

Here is the list of documents you must prepare for applying for a Temporary Residence Permit:

  • Signed application form (.doc, .pdf, example)
  • Signature form (.pdf)
  • a colour copy of your passport ( the passport must have validity extending beyond the planned period of residence in Slovenia by at least 3 months (photocopy to be certified by a notary), no need of translation.
  • Personal photo (35 x 45mm, fit for biometric documents).
  • Proof of valid health insurance in Slovenia for the entire stay but at least until the end of the academic year – insurance must be for at least 30.000 EUR coverage. If the insurance policy is not in English it must be officially translated into Slovene language.
  • Certificate of criminal record from home country. It must be legalised in your country  (with an Apostille if your country is member of Hague convention if not it must be legalised by competent authority in your country) and at the Slovene Embassy.   • Proof of sufficient financial means –  currently EUR 494.09 per month (aprox. 6,000/ Year). You must present proof that you have enough funds available in the form of a Bank statement or statement of your parents/legal guardians, if they are obliged to support you by the law of your country or employment contract or sufficient means or a scholarship etc.
  • Confirmation of enrolment issued by your university.
  • You will be asked for two fingerprints at the Administrative Unit or Embassy.

 

Health Insurance

Health insurance ensures adequate health and social security in times of sickness or injury, since it covers the costs for risks in cases of sickness, injury, or other health-care needs.

 Foreigners who are not included in the health insurance system of the Republic of Slovenia have the right to urgent or necessary health care services, the payment for which is provided in accordance with the European legal order, international agreements or from the state budget.

There is a self-service laundry in the Marine Biology Station for those who stay there or in Lucija (http://operi.si/sample-page/), at Obala 132, open every day from 8 am to 11 pm.

According to their website, the prices are the following:
