Intercultural Business Communication

Program overview

This Master´s Degree is suitable for students who are looking to broaden their perspective of the issues and challenges related to the Euro-Mediterranean region within the context of business and intercultural communication.

This programme offers students the opportunity to provide a robust knowledge of the specificities of conducting business in the Euro-Mediterranean region and beyond, as well as to develop communication and intra-personal skills of individuals, allowing them to assume managerial responsibilities with confidence.

Program learning outcomes

Students will develop a high competence in written and spoken registers of two foreign languages, acquiring a deeper understanding of the cultural features of the respective countries, and the most important economic topics relevant for business at international level. Students will also become more aware of cultural differences and specific problems related to intercultural communication.

Graduates will have highly developed communications skills in two foreign languages. They will be able to communicate effectively in complex business contexts within international companies or small medium-sized enterprises planning an internationalisation process. They will have a solid knowledge of the cultural characteristics of the countries where the languages they have studied are spoken and they will understand the dynamics of intercultural communication. Therefore, they will also be able to speak and write properly in two foreign languages according to the different contexts in which they are asked to act.

Admission requirements

Applicants must have:

  • At least 3 year’s Bachelor’s degree (first cycle, 180 ECTS) or equivalent;
  • At least 16 ECTS or equivalent in courses related to economics, business, management or marketing
  • English language proficiency at advanced level (C1 CEFR level)
  • Second language proficiency at intermediate level (B1 CEFR)

Candidates who do not meet criteria in point 2 must pass following bridging exams prior to enrolment: Management and Leadership (8 ECTS) and Marketing in Small and Medium Enterprises (8 ECTS).

Admission to the first year of study is granted to the applicants who have completed a comparable education abroad and have been, in the process of recognition of their qualification and in accordance with Assessment and Recognition of Education Act, granted the right to continue their studies at the study programme.

The relevant proof of compliance for English language proficiency:

  • Certificate of C1 level (CEFR) of equivalent certificate (IELTS score 7.0 – 8.0, Cambridge FCE 180 – 199 , TOEFL IBT 95 – 120
  • A bachelor degree at a programme conducted in English language and a statement of the higher education institution the candidate completed the programme in English language.

Candidates who are English native speakers and candidates who completed the studies in countries where English is the language of instruction are considered as fulfilling the English language proficiency and do not need to provide proof of compliance.

The EMUNI University reserves the right to test the candidates’ language knowledge if, during the application process, EMUNI finds that the English language proficiency is not at the required level.

The above provisions also apply for the second language proficiency at B1 level (the candidate can also provide a statement of a second language such as native language).

Transfer criteria for admission in second year

Transferring between study programmes is possible according to the Higher Education Act, Criteria for transferring between study programmes and other regulations of this field.

Transferring between study programmes is granted to candidates, provided that the following conditions are met:

  • the candidate fulfils the admission requirements for the study programme;
  • study programmes ensure the acquisition of comparable competences or study outcomes;
  • at least half of the obligations under the European Transferable Credit System (ECTS) from the first study programme relating to the compulsory courses of the master’s degree programme may be recognized according to the criteria for recognition of knowledge and skills acquired prior to enrolment in the programme.

Applications for transferring between study programmes are considered by the relevant Commission. In accordance with the Criteria for transferring between study programmes the Commission takes into account the comparability between study programmes and study obligations the candidate has completed in the previous study programme, that can be recognized in this study programme.

For the transfer the candidate must provide the syllabus for all the courses from the previous study programme in English language.

Graduates will be able to hold positions of great responsibility in international business fields (marketing and sales offices, international public relations offices) in companies and other public and private organisations.

Tuition and Scholarships

Tuition fee for this programme is 2.900 EUR / per academic year and can be made in the following ways:

  • paid in full upon enrolment 
  • paid in two instalments (upon enrolment, February)

Based on their personal profile, experience and proven motivation, the candidate may be awarded a scholarship to partially cover the tuition fee. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis as funds are limited.
