New Students Supported by UNHCR Arrive in Slovenia to Begin Their Studies at EMUNI

On Friday, 14 November, Slovenia welcomed two new students arriving through UNHCR-supported education pathways, who have now begun their Master’s studies at EMUNI.

Previously living in Türkiye, the students arrived at Ljubljana Airport, where they were warmly welcomed by the two students who joined EMUNI last year through the same initiative. Their arrival reflects the continuous success of a programme that offers talented young people the chance to continue their education in a safe and supportive environment.

A Safe and Supported Education Pathway

Their arrival is made possible through Slovenia’s Complementary Education Pathways Programme, implemented in close cooperation with:

  • Government of Slovenia

  • Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation

  • Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs

  • UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency

  • EMUNI University

Now in its second year, this programme enables students from displacement contexts to legally and safely pursue a Master’s degree in Slovenia.

Beyond academic admission, the programme also provides:

  • A scholarship,

  • Support with accommodation,

  • Guidance through documentation and administrative procedures,

  • Integration assistance to help students settle in Slovenia and focus fully on their studies.

EMUNI’s Commitment

This year’s arrivals follow the successful enrollment of two students in 2024, reaffirming EMUNI’s commitment to:

  • supporting students from diverse and challenging backgrounds,

  • fostering intercultural understanding and dialogue,

  • promoting access to higher education for women,

  • contributing to inclusive, resilient, and empowered societies.

As Polona Oblak, Head of the EMUNI Network, stated:

“We are delighted to welcome Ranim and Mohammadreza to EMUNI. Their journey embodies our mission—empowering young people, fostering intercultural dialogue, and opening doors to opportunities that transform lives. We are proud to be part of this meaningful initiative.”

EMUNI expresses deep appreciation to all partners, government institutions, UNHCR, and university colleagues for their continued commitment to creating safe education pathways.

With the support of UNHCR and Slovenia’s education authorities, new futures begin here.
At EMUNI, we are honoured to accompany these students as they start their academic journey in Slovenia.
