HR Excellence in Research Award

Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) is committed to promoting research excellence and fostering the career development of its researchers. In line with this commitment, EMUNI has formally endorsed the European Charter for Researchers and is actively working to implement its 20 principles through the HR Excellence in Research Award (HRS4R) process.

The European Charter for Researchers

The European Charter for Researchers provides a framework of 20 principles aimed at creating a supportive, transparent, and motivating environment for researchers. These principles are grouped under four main pillars:

  1. Ethics, Integrity, Gender and Open Science – Promoting ethical conduct, research integrity, gender equality, academic freedom, and open access to research results.
  2. Researchers’ Assessment, Recruitment and Progression – Ensuring transparent criteria for recruiting, assessing, and promoting researchers based on their skills and achievements.
  3. Working Conditions and Practices – Guaranteeing fair employment conditions, work-life balance, adequate funding and salaries, and overall financial security.
  4. Research Careers and Talent Development – Supporting career planning, continuous learning, and recognition of diverse research career paths.

EMUNI’s Commitment to HR Excellence

EMUNI is currently in the process of obtaining the HR Excellence in Research Award, actively embedding the Charter’s principles into institutional policies and practices. This process involves:

  • Reviewing and updating internal procedures for researcher recruitment and career development
  • Promoting professional and personal development opportunities for researchers
  • Supporting international mobility and cross-border collaboration
  • Ensuring transparent, fair, and ethical working conditions
  • Raising awareness of research career opportunities at the regional and international levels

Through these efforts, EMUNI aims to institutionalize a culture of excellence, enhance the motivation and retention of researchers, and strengthen its position as a leading research hub in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Institutional Support for the Initiation of the HR Excellence in Research Award Process

The Senate of EMUNI University was informed about the University’s ongoing participation in the HR Excellence in Research Award (HRS4R) process, which is being carried out within the framework of the EUNICoast University Alliance.

During the session, the Chairperson explained that EMUNI University has successfully completed a self-assessment evaluating its policies and practices against the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The assessment confirmed that the University’s procedures are aligned with these European standards aimed at promoting transparent recruitment, fair working conditions, and strong support for research careers.

Members of the Senate were invited to share experiences and examples of best practices related to research management and researcher support. Following the discussion, no additional comments were raised.

The Senate formally took note of EMUNI University’s status and activities related to the HR Excellence in Research Award (HRS4R), reaffirming the institution’s commitment to strengthening research quality and supporting researchers within the European research framework.
