President of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI), Prof. Rado Bohinc, took part in a high-level discussion on the future of green education during the 2nd Mediterranean Green Week, held on 26–27 June 2025 at the University of Girona. The event was co-organized by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union, and the University of Girona, and brought together academic leaders, international organizations, and policy experts from across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Prof. Bohinc was a featured speaker during the Plenary Session on “Greening Education: Assessing Challenges and Opportunities”, where he shared EMUNI’s commitment to sustainability, interdisciplinary research, and climate-smart curricula. His contribution underscored EMUNI’s strategic role in advancing the sustainability agenda within Mediterranean higher education.
The forum aimed to pave the way for stronger regional collaboration by preparing an Advocacy Paper for the launch of a Euro-Mediterranean University Alliance for Climate Action, potentially to be unveiled at COP30. Key topics included integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into academic programmes, enhancing green skills, and fostering partnerships for climate action.
Prof. Bohinc’s participation reinforced EMUNI’s active involvement in shaping the future of sustainable education and research in the Mediterranean and its alignment with the upcoming UfM Ministerial Declaration on Higher Education.
The event concluded with a set of actionable recommendations to support a more climate-resilient, sustainable, and interconnected higher education landscape across the Mediterranean.
