MED.HELA Research Visit Opens at EMUNI: Building Leadership Capacity in Mediterranean Higher Education

Project No. 101236505
Koper, 30/03/2026

EMUNI University is hosting this week the international research visit of MED.HELA – Mediterranean Higher Education Leadership Academy, bringing together partners from Algeria, Tunisia, Slovenia, Spain and Ireland to co‑design a new regional leadership academy and development programme for higher education.

From 30 March to 2 April 2026, partners are gathered at EMUNI in Koper for Research Visit 1 and a project meeting focused on the Mediterranean Higher Education Leadership Academy (MHELA) and its Leadership Development Programme (MHE‑LDP), targeting university leaders and ministry representatives who will spearhead academy set‑up in Algeria and Tunisia.

The study visit was opened by EMUNI President, prof. dr. Rado Bohinc, with a lecture on the challenges of leading an international university. The programme features needs‑analysis presentations, workshops on programme structure and delivery standards, and a study visit to IEDC – Bled School of Management, complemented by networking activities across Koper, Piran, Bled and Ljubljana.

On this occasion, EMUNI also welcomed Mr. Abdeldjalil Baassou, Counselor at the Embassy of Algeria in Ljubljana, who joined the Algerian delegation comprising representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, the University of Tlemcen, the University of Biskra and Constantine University. The Embassy expressed strong support for academic mobility and research exchanges between EMUNI and Algerian institutions — several of which, including the University of Béjaïa, are longstanding members of the EMUNI network.

MED.HELA is coordinated by Université de Tlemcen (UABT, Algeria) with partners from Algeria, Tunisia, Ireland, Slovenia (EMUNI) and Spain, with ALECSO as associated partner. The project is co‑financed by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education action (ERASMUS‑EDU‑2025‑CBHE, Strand 3).
