Ambassador Hatem Atallah from Tunisia (chairperson) is coming from a rich diplomatic background that encompassed over 35 years, Ambassador Atallah was the Tunisian Ambassador in several countries including the US, the UK, South Africa and Ethiopia, He was also the Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the Organization of American States, the African Union, the Economic Commission for Africa, UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), UN-Habitat, and the International Maritime Organization. He was appointed Diplomatic Advisor to the Head of the Tunisian Government until February 2015. Ambassador Atallah participated in numerous summits, ministerial meetings and high level conferences of the African Union, the United Nations and the Union for the Mediterranean. He gave numerous conferences on political, diplomatic and cultural themes in several universities in the United States and the United Kingdom. From March 2015 to December 2017 he served as Executive Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation for Dialogue between Cultures in the Euro-Mediterranean Region. Ambassador Atallah serves on the Board of Governors of the Gorée Institute in Sénégal and is a founding member of « AVASP » (Institute for Strategic Analysis and Prospective Studies – Tunis). He is also member of the Association of International Studies and teaches at the Diplomatic Institute in Tunis.

Prof. Giuseppe Cataldi from Italy is full Professor of International Law and Director of the Department of Social and Human Sciences in the University of Napoli “L’Orientale” (University Vice-President, 2008-2014). Coordinator of the European Network Jean Monnet “MAPS” (Migration and Asylum Policy Systems. Weaknessess, Shortcomings and Reform Proposals). Former Director of the “Centre of Excellence Jean Monnet on the Protection of Migrants’ Rights in the Mediterranean Sea” and former holder of a “Jean Monnetad personam Chair on the “Protection of Human Rights in the European Union”. He is the President of the International Association for the Law of the Sea (AssIDMer), author and editor of many articles and books on International Law and European Union Law issues. EMUNI Management Board Member (former Senate Member). He is in charge, as consultant, of the “Area of International Studies” for Pegaso University. Visiting Professor in the Universities of Cordoba (Spain), Kobe (Japan), Alexandria (Egypt), Paris 1 Sorbonne (France), Faro (Portugal). From to 2000 to 2015 he directed the “International Institute for Juridical Studies”, CNR (Italian National Research Council). He has worked as Consultant for many International as well as National Institutions and private firms, pleading beyond numerous international courts. Former member of the Expert Group on “Mediterranean Governance” appointed by the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature). Consultant to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for matters concerning the law of the sea, he was a member of the Italian delegation to the 21st session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee (1997). He was legal advisor to the European Union Commission – Directorate General for Fisheries, on the legal issues of fisheries management in the Mediterranean, and in this capacity member of the official delegation of the European Commission to the Diplomatic Conference in Crete (December 1994). Cofounder and co-director of “Diritti umani e diritto internazionale”, co-director of “The Italian Yearbook of International Law”. Member of the Italian Society of International Law (Vice-President, 2012 – 2013) and of the Société française de droit international.

Prof. Hassan Nadir Kheirallah from Egypt is a Professor of microwave engineering at the faculty of engineering, Alexandria University. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Alexandria University. Master and PhD degrees from Carleton University, Canada. Former president of Alexandria University and of the French University in Egypt and of Senghor University. Former member of the board of trustees of the bibliotheca Alexandria and of the Egypt-Japan University for Science and technology (EJUST). Former chairman of the Projects Management Unit at the Ministry of Higher Education in Egypt. Expert in Higher Education and Internationalization. Member of the management board of EMUNI University. Currently Counsellor for the president of Alexandria University for international relations. Holder of the Scientific Research prize from  Alexandria university. Holder of the Taha Hussein prize from Alexandria University. Holder of “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite Français”.

Prof. Mouin Hamze from Lebanon obtained his “Doctorat d’Etat – Es Sciences” from the University of Montpellier, France. He started his academic career at the Lebanese University where he established the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and acted as its Dean from 1985-1997. He was concurrently acting as Chairman of the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute. In 1998, M. Hamzé was appointed Secretary General of the CNRS-L, where he has given special attention to the launching of research and capacity building programmes including: the Ph.D. Scholarship Program, the Joint Grant Research Program, the Associated Research Units Programme, and the Research Excellence Award in Lebanon. Since 2006, he has developed and implemented a fundamental science policy programme for Lebanon, while in 2016 he has led an initiative to develop the Charter of Ethics and Guiding Principles of Scientific Research in Lebanon, which was later confirmed as the basis for a regional Arab charter. M. Hamzé has authored several books and scientific papers, led EU and international projects, chaired numerous international and regional meetings, and has been actively involved in several international organizations, including: CIHEAM, IAEA, COMEST-UNESCO, ICARDA, ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC), AUF, PRIMA-EU and most recently (in 2019) joined as member of the EMUNI Management Board. In recognition of his work, M. Hamzé received two “Doctor Honoris Causa” from the University of Haute Alsace and from the University of Montpellier in France and was awarded the “Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole” and the “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite” (France), the “Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite” (Italy) and the “Chevalier dans l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur” (France).

Prof. Moustafa Bousmina is the President of the Euro-Med University of Fez. Professor Bousmina is presently the Chancellor of the Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology in Morocco and responsible for the Euromed University project. In 2008, he created the Institute of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology (INANOTECH) in Morocco and acted as the General Director of the Institute from 2008 to June 2011. His work has brought crucial contributions in the field of Chemical Sciences. Prof. Bousmina also built the sole instrument in the world that combines rheometry with x-ray, ultrasound, light scattering, birefringence, dichroism, dielectric measurements, magnetorheology, electrorheology and in-situ visualization. He also derived a well-known equation that allows extracting the shear rate and the stress (and thus the viscosity) from a batch mixer with any geometry. This equation is now installed on the entire commercial batch mixers sold worldwide by ThermoHaake and Brabender, and other companies.

Prof. Rado Pišot, is director of the Science and Research Centre Koper. He is a professor and scientific councillor in the field of Kinesiology, He was one of the initiators who designed the bases for the establishment of the University of Primorska (UP) as well as the initiator for the foundation and the first dean of the Faculty of Education of the UP, Koper(2003–2007).  (2007-2011) he was the Vice Chancellor in the field of scientific, research and developmental work of the UP. Since the establishment in 2004 and until March 2013, he was the head of the Institute for Kinesiology Research at the Science and Research Centre, and a member of the Scientific Council of the UP SRC as well as the member of the Senate of the UP. He was a director of the UP Science and Research Centre (UP SRC) (2013 – 2016). After establishment of the new, independent public research Centre by the Government of Slovenia – Science and Research Centre of Koper (SRC KP), Slovenia, he become a director of the new SRC KP (2017-). His priority research areas include the study of motor development and motor learning, as well as the diagnostics and research of skeletal muscles, where emphasis is put on monitoring adaptive capacities of skeletal muscles in diverse environments and life characteristics. His research achievements have been published in many internationally known journals (123 scientific papers; 800 citations). He is author of many scientific monographs, manuals and textbooks. He was invited as a guest professor at many universities and international conferences worldwide. He managed (PI) and collaborate in several national and international projects. Some of them: Bed Rest The Impact of Simulated Weightlessness on Human Organism (6 studies financed by European Space Agency; Italian Space Agency); international scientific project: Metabolic Detection of Insulin Abuse in Sportsmen, financed by the World Anti-Doping Agency; international scientific project: Adaptation of Muscle Tissue, Central and Peripheral Oxidative Stress in Bodybuilders financed by the Universities of Udine and Manchester; Interreg Slovenia Italy PI: PANGeA – Physical Activity and Nutrition for Quality Ageing, and MEMORI-net–Mental and Motor Rehabilitation of Ictus-Network financed by the EU;… . He is a head of research programme Kinesiology for the Quality of Life, editor of many conference proceedings and member of editorial committees of several international scientific journals. For his research, work and contribution, he was awarded at national and international level.

Ambassador Álvaro Albacete Perea is the UfM Deputy Secretary General for of Higher Education and Research since September 2022, and is a career diplomat of Spain. 

He previously served as Deputy Head of Cabinet to the Foreign Minister, Director General of Sefarad/Israel Center, and Ambassador At Large responsible for the relations of Spain with Jewish Communities and Organizations. More recently, Ambassador Albacete has held the positions of Deputy Secretary General of the International Dialogue Center, and diplomatic adviser in the office of the Prime Minister of Spain.

Ambassador Albacete has developed part of his career as a diplomat working in international organizations, such as the European Union, in Bosnia/Herzegovina, and the Inter-American Development Bank, in Argentina, Bolivia and Panama.

 

Darinka Vrečko holds the position of Secretary within the Department of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia. From 1996 when she joined the Ministry, she performed different tasks within the international office and as Head of Unit for EU Affairs (preparatory measures and negotiation process for accession to the EU, member of the Socrates Committee and the Education Committee etc.). She was a member of the Bologna Follow-up Group from 1999 to 2010 and its Chair during the Slovene Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2008, as well as national coordinator for several multilateral programmes in higher education. Ms. Vrečko has (co)authored international studies and publications, and has been a member of numerous commissions and management boards at national level. Currently, her main responsibilities include international cooperation and EU affairs, preparation of strategic and legislative documents, and structural funds programming in the area of higher education.

 

Dr. Maysoun Ibrahim is a professional in Information and Communication Technology for Development with many years of diverse experience from Palestine. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Higher Council for Innovation and Excellence, Chairperson of the Experimental Incubation Committee of the Council, and acted as the Chairperson of the 2019 National Forum on the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Dr. Ibrahim holds a PhD in Information Technology with a focus on Smart Sustainable Cities, a dynamic area that lies at the core of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. A researcher with a rich track record of publications, she has published research papers at renowned international conferences and highly ranked scientific journals, as well as the recent book titled: “Smart Sustainable Cities: Transformation towards Future Cities.” Dr. Ibrahim also contributed a chapter on the “Fourth Industrial Revolution and Smart Cities in the time of COVID-19” in an international book titled: “In the time of Pandemic: Managing through Crisis”; both books are available on Amazon. She is currently a reviewer and a member of the programme committees of top international research conferences and journals.

With extensive academic experience, Dr. Ibrahim previously worked as a part-time lecturer at different local universities and delivered various academic webinars and seminars to universities in the Arab region and globally, including Rice University in USA, Portsmouth University in UK, New York University (Abu Dhabi campus) in UAE, Beirut Arab University in Lebanon and others. She is also a member of numerous national and international committees and councils, including the United Nations ESCWA Technology Center Technical Committee and Coordinating Committee for Industry Research Centers in the Arab Region among others.

Karen Gladović from Slovenia (representative of EMUNI employees) is the Head of the Education Department at the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI). She holds a degree in Law from the University of Ljubljana and is a PhD candidate in Management at the University of Primorska, where she is also a lecturer in the Department of Law. She was a member of the special task force at the Ministry of Finance, General Financial Office, which dealt with and implemented the most demanding measures to enforce tax debt in tax court proceedings. Her research is in the area of Corporate Governance, Intellectual Property rights and Technology Transfer. She is engaged in Science Policy Dialogue in the Euro-Mediterranean region, particularly in the areas of Science and Higher Education, Research and Innovation Cooperation.

Ms. Emna Jbara holds an undergraduate degree in Business Management from the Mediterranean school of business in Tunisia and currently doing her master degree in Intercultural Business Communication at EMUNI. She is very passionate about Marketing and Communication. She likes to keep herself updated about changes that occur in this domain as she has always worked on herself to develop the needed skills. She was able to put her passion into practice through her participation in various clubs and associations.
