Libya has been hit by devastating floods caused by Storm Daniel, causing dams to burst and buildings to collapse. The eastern coastal city of Derna in particular was ravaged by flash floods on 11 September. Today, the death toll stands at more than 5,000 with at least 10,000 missing, fuelling fears casualties will rise dramatically.

The Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) wishes to express its deepest sympathies to all those impacted by this disaster.

EMUNI stands in solidarity with the people of Libya, as well as the rescuers who are working tirelessly to find entire families and sadly, communities, who are missing.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Rescue Committee are launching appeals for donations.
