Delegation of French Senators visit EMUNI

On September 30, EMUNI was pleased to receive a delegation of French senators hailing from the France-Slovenia friendship group.

Interparliamentary friendship groups are instruments of cooperation and diplomacy between Parliaments and are common to many political systems. As part of their mandate, friendship groups typically collect information about the countries they visit, including on matters of cultural relevance.

The delegation was formed by Sen. Nicole Duranton, Sen. Colette Melot and Sen. Francois Bonhomme, who paid a visit to EMUNI’s premises in Piran as part of a tour that included talks with their Slovenian counterparts in Ljubljana and visits to French enterprises operating in Slovenia.

EMUNI has an ongoing collaboration with the Institut francais of Ljubljana (which lead to a recent collaboration in the organisation of this initiative). Additionally, it treasures the membership of French universities in its network, which made the visit of the French delegation all the more relevant.

The meeting with EMUNI’s staff and President Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry, was an opportunity to illustrate our institution’s activities, mandate and role in the Mediterranean region. It was also an occasion to imagine further cooperation with French higher education institutions projecting themselves onto the Mediterranean basin. EMUNI’s president showcased our university’s priorities and recalled the many ways in which EMUNI is tied to France, not the least through the Chair of EMUNI’s Management Board: professor Gendrau-Massaloux.

At the end of the visit, EMUNI was honoured to be bestowed a present on behalf of the French Senate which was reciprocated by EMUNI’s token of appreciation for our guests’ interest in our institution.
