My Life-Changing Journey at EMUNI University: A Personal Experience
My name is Emna, and I’m from Tunisia. After completing my undergraduate studies in Business Administration, I decided to pursue a master’s degree in Intercultural Business Communication at EMUNI University in Slovenia. EMUNI has a unique focus on Mediterranean culture and is proudly part of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). Before applying, I could never have imagined just how profoundly this experience would shape my life. Today, I want to share the steps I took on this life-changing journey.
Application Process
The application process at EMUNI was smooth and straightforward. I applied online through their website, submitting my bachelor’s degree and transcript of records for the master’s program. Even when I faced challenges or was missing certain documents, the academic staff were incredibly helpful. They guided me every step of the way and made sure I had everything needed to complete my application. Their prompt responses and clear instructions made the process easy and stress-free.
I was fortunate enough to be at the top of my class with a GPA of 9.8/10, reflecting my dedication and hard work throughout my undergraduate studies. The application fees were free, and once I was accepted, I only had to pay affordable registration fees—an added bonus!
Scholarship Opportunities
The scholarship application process is separate from the admission process but is just as easy to navigate. The university provides clear guidelines, and I was thrilled to receive a scholarship that covered both my tuition fees and accommodation during the in-person periods. This financial support significantly reduced my worries about expenses, allowing me to focus on my studies without distractions.
To cover additional costs like food and leisure, I needed about €300 per month, excluding accommodation (which typically ranged between €300-€400). This budget was more than sufficient for a comfortable living experience, making it possible for me to fully enjoy my time at EMUNI.
My Major: Intercultural Business Communication
I enrolled in the Master’s Study Programme: Intercultural Business Communication. This interdisciplinary program combines knowledge and skills aimed at supporting communication across various market actors, including enterprises and non-profit organizations. The curriculum covers modern business practices, including internet marketing and international strategies, as well as key soft skills like intercultural dialogue and relationship-building.
One of the program’s highlights is the focus on developing proficiency in English and other Mediterranean languages. The diverse range of topics ensures a well-rounded, holistic business education, which has equipped me with valuable skills that I can apply globally.
University Resources
EMUNI provides a wealth of resources that enhance our learning experience. We have the opportunity to go on field trips, which allow us to explore nearby cultures and practice our language skills. The university also regularly hosts renowned writers who teach us the art of writing, helping to refine our academic and professional communication skills.
Additionally, EMUNI offers mobility programs, which I took full advantage of. I had the privilege of living in three different countries—Spain, Italy, and Belgium—during my studies, completing internships in each. These international experiences were supported by an Erasmus+ grant, which provided financial assistance and enriched my time abroad.
The Beautiful Location
Studying at EMUNI comes with the added benefit of living in one of the most picturesque locations imaginable. The campus is located in Piran, a stunning coastal town in Slovenia. Not only is the town charming, but its location also makes it incredibly easy to travel. Being nestled between Italy and Croatia means that weekend trips to other cities and countries are just a 30-minute to 1-hour drive away from the campus!
Campus Life and Extracurricular Activities
Being part of the management board at EMUNI was a rewarding experience. It gave me a stronger sense of belonging to the university and helped me connect with both the administration and my fellow students on a deeper level. As for extracurricular activities, the university has a lot to offer. From movie sessions to pizza parties and musical events, there’s always something to help you unwind and socialize.
The campus also provides bikes and other facilities to keep us active and engaged. These activities not only promote relaxation but also foster a sense of community among students, making it easy to form lasting friendships.
A Diverse Student Body
One of the most enriching aspects of studying at EMUNI is the incredibly diverse student body. Students come from all over the world, and living in the same area makes it easy to meet new people and engage in cross-cultural exchanges. The small class sizes create an intimate learning environment where everyone gets to know each other well, and every day is an opportunity to learn about different cultures. This exposure has been invaluable in deepening my understanding of intercultural behavior.
