EMUNI University and ALECSO Strengthen Cooperation in Higher Education, Research and Innovation

EMUNI University held a meeting with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), a full member of the EMUNI Network, to discuss opportunities for strengthened cooperation in higher education, research, innovation, and Euro-Mediterranean academic collaboration.

EMUNI University was represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Rado Bohinc; Vice-President, Prof. Dr. Roberto Biloslavo; and Head of Network, Prof. Polona Oblak. ALECSO was represented by Dr. Mohammad Sanad Abu-Darwish, Director of the Department of Science and Scientific Research, and Ms. Ilaf Slama.

The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between the two institutions and identifying new opportunities for joint initiatives across the Euro-Mediterranean region. The participants discussed the upcoming Euro-Mediterranean Higher Education, Research and Innovation Conference (EM-HERI 2026), which will be held in Tunis in cooperation with ALECSO. They also addressed accreditation opportunities and challenges facing universities in Arab countries, as well as broader developments in higher education systems in the European Union and Arab countries. The discussion further explored future cooperation between the southern and northern Mediterranean regions, highlighting the role of both institutions in shaping the future of higher education through new alliances, stronger partnerships, and increased academic collaboration.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Rado Bohinc and Dr. Mohammad Sanad Abu-Darwish signed two agreements. The first was a partnership agreement related to the EM-HERI Conference, dated 23 June. The second was a Memorandum of Understanding, reflecting the serious intention of both institutions to develop long-term cooperation and strengthen future collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

This meeting marks an important step in reinforcing EMUNI University’s mission to build bridges across the Euro-Mediterranean region and to promote dialogue, cooperation, and innovation in higher education through its growing international network.
