EMUNI University officially opened the Arabic Corner at the EMUNI Library, marking an important cultural and academic milestone in strengthening Euro-Mediterranean dialogue, intercultural understanding, and cooperation with the Arab world.
The Arabic Corner was established through a generous donation of Arabic books by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), a full member of the EMUNI Network. The donated collection will enrich the EMUNI Library and provide students, researchers, professors, and visitors with access to valuable Arabic-language resources in the fields of culture, education, science, literature, and intercultural studies.
The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including H.E. Ms. Sabrina Kaci-Bey, Ambassador of Algeria to Slovenia; H.E. Ms. Nahla Al Zawahry, Ambassador of Egypt to Slovenia; Dr. Mohammad Sanad Abu-Darwish, Director of the Science and Scientific Research Department at ALECSO; Ms. Ilef Slama, Project Coordinator at the Department of Science of ALECSO; Dr. Fouad El-Mansour, President of the Arab Club in Slovenia; representatives of UNHCR; representatives of the academic community; professors; students; and other distinguished guests.
The Arabic Corner was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Rado Bohinc, President of EMUNI University, and Dr. Mohammad Sanad Abu-Darwish, Director of the Science and Scientific Research Department at ALECSO. In their remarks, the speakers highlighted the importance of academic and cultural cooperation, the role of libraries in connecting societies, and the value of strengthening ties between the northern and southern Mediterranean.
As part of the ceremony, guests listened to a short excerpt from Alamut, the renowned novel by Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, presented in three languages. The Slovenian version was read by Dr. Luka Juri, Head of the Department of Political and Social Sciences at EMUNI University, while the Arabic version was presented by Mr. Yazan Odeh. This multilingual literary moment symbolized the spirit of dialogue, translation, and cultural exchange at the heart of the Arabic Corner.
The opening of the Arabic Corner reflects EMUNI University’s commitment to fostering intercultural communication, academic cooperation, and mutual understanding across the Euro-Mediterranean region. It also represents another meaningful step in the collaboration between EMUNI University and ALECSO, contributing to stronger educational, scientific, and cultural bridges between Europe and the Arab world.
