EMUNI Network launches “The Mediterranean Through the Lens: Frames of Peace” in Algeria

EMUNI Network is launching The Mediterranean Through the Lens: Frames of Peace, a new Euro-Mediterranean photography initiative dedicated to peace, intercultural dialogue, coexistence and mutual understanding.

The first national round will take place in Algeria from 5 to 31 October 2026, inviting students, professors, researchers, academic staff and non-academic staff from EMUNI Network institutions in Algeria to share their own interpretation of peace through photography.

Peace can be reflected in many ways: through a person, a place, a gesture, a landscape, an encounter or a simple moment from everyday life. The initiative invites participants to capture one such moment and respond visually to the central question:

“What does peace look like through your eyes?”

Photography as a shared Mediterranean language

The initiative uses photography as a common language to connect different experiences and perspectives across the Mediterranean. Algeria is the first country to launch the competition, marking the beginning of a wider Mediterranean initiative that is planned to continue in other countries during the 2026/2027 academic year.

For the Algeria round, TEKIH Algeria at the University of Tlemcen will serve as the national focal point, supporting local coordination and dissemination.

How to participate

Participants should submit one original JPG photograph, together with its title, location, date/year and a short description of up to 100 words explaining its connection to the theme of peace.

The photograph should be at least 3,000 px on the longest side and no larger than 10 MB. Basic photographic corrections are allowed, while fully AI-generated images are not eligible. Participation is free of charge.

From Algeria to EMUNI

The 10 strongest photographs will become part of the official EMUNI selection, while the top four will be printed and displayed at EMUNI University in Koper, Slovenia. Selected works may also be presented during future EMUNI activities and exhibitions.

As the initiative expands, EMUNI aims to build a growing visual collection showing how peace is understood and experienced across the Mediterranean.
