Creatively activating young citizens (a MedHub discussion)

The MedHub project discussion took place today in Ljubljana on the topic of capitalising on the creative industries for activating young citizens in the Euro-Mediterranean region. 

With a special focus on the Euro-Mediterranean region, representatives from policy, university and creative spheres discussed to what extent cultural and creative sectors can be the drivers of social change. 

Keynote speech on creative activism was delivered by Rűta Vimba (Mašta Collective) and the following speakers participated in the debate that followed: Mohammed Elrazzaz (Union for the Mediterranean), Paul Walton (Anna Lindh Foundation), Primož Kristan (Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia), Dr. Guiseppe Borruso (University of Trieste), Dr. Mounir Ghribi (OGS Italy), Dr. Danica Purg (IEDC), Dr. Alenka Fikfak (Faculty of Architecture Ljubljana), Samer Yamani (Creative Dialogue), Nataša Zavolovšek (Exodos Ljubljana), Romana Zajec (Zavod APIS) and Žiga Vrtačič (Danes je nov dan, Parlameter). The discussion was moderated by Miha Šušteršič, STA.

Topic such as opportunities for creation of global citizens in the Euro-Mediterranean area, barriers to creative industries in the region, connecting young citizens through creative industries and addressing the lack of election participation were discussed.

The discussion resulted in a list of policy recommendations for decision-makers in the wider Euro-Mediterranean region and recommendations on for Euro-Mediterranean Studies curricula.
