The EUNICoast Alliance has published its new Policy and Commitment Statement: Community Engagement as a Core Mission of the Transformative University, reaffirming its shared vision of universities as active partners in addressing societal challenges.
Developed by the EUNICoast Community Engagement Commission (Work Package 4), the statement presents a common framework for embedding community engagement into the core mission of higher education. It highlights the importance of reciprocal partnerships, open science, social responsibility, and knowledge co-creation with communities, particularly in coastal, island, and port regions.
The document outlines the Alliance’s vision of the transformative university, built on three interconnected pillars: transformative education, transformative research, and transformative engagement. It also defines six guiding principles, concrete operational commitments for partner universities, and a policy agenda advocating for stronger recognition of community engagement within European higher education and research systems.
