DIGIVOTE conference hosted at Emuni

On 10 February 2026, EMUNI University hosted the international DIGIVOTE conference, dedicated to the future of electronic and internet voting in Europe. The event opened an interdisciplinary debate on how digital voting may enhance electoral accessibility and democratic participation, while also raising critical challenges related to ballot secrecy, cybersecurity, procedural verifiability, and the legitimacy of electoral outcomes.

Speakers including Dr. Rado Bohinc, Dr. Jurij Toplak, Dr. Ivan Svetlik, Gorazd Božič (SI-CERT), M.Sc. Simon Delakorda, Emil Milan Pintar, and Dr. Alessia Sciamanna highlighted diverse legal, technological, and societal perspectives on public trust in digital electoral systems. They stressed that digital voting solutions require carefully designed safeguards, as even small uncertainties regarding security or procedural integrity may significantly affect citizens’ confidence in democratic institutions. The conference provided an important foundation for the next phases of the DIGIVOTE project and future European discussions on resilient and inclusive digital voting.
