Vacancy for a Researcher (Research fellow/Junior Research fellow)

Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) (www.emuni.si), a priority area of the Union for the Mediterranean, works to strengthen cooperation among higher education and research institutions in the Euro-Mediterranean region and provides a platform for a regional dialogue in areas of strategic importance.

Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Blue Economy (https://coe-sube.eu/), awarded to EMUNI in 2022, pools knowledge and competence on the subject of the EU’s blue economy. It fosters interactions in the knowledge triangle (academia-policy-society) related to the theme of the blue economy, both in how these play out in the EU and in its relation with the Mediterranean region.

To support a growing portfolio of activities in the domain of sustainable blue economy, we are looking to employ a researcher.

We welcome early to mid-level career researchers who seek to develop or link their own research projects with the broader themes of the Centre of Excellence. The researcher will collaborate on data gathering, organization of events and opportunities in the field, dissemination of findings, communication among partners, report writing and scientific writing. There is a lot of scopes to align this with the development of the researcher’s own agenda.

An interest in the marine and maritime socio-ecological issues and demonstrated interdisciplinarity are expected. A track record in areas of social innovation, management and governance of socio-ecological systems or sustainability studies is an excellent vantage point. Enthusiasm for work is particularly well received.

We offer a part- or full-time contractual position (60-100%). Presence in Slovenia is required on a periodic basis, and full-time presence in Slovenia is an advantage, however, a combination with remote work is an option. We thus encourage candidates from the wider region (Croatia, North Italy, Austria etc.) to apply.

Eligible candidates should either hold a doctoral degree (PhD) OR have >2 years of research or project experience (e.g. master degree with research assistance to PI, work on EU-funded projects, project management in competitively funded projects). Candidates should have solid research skills, additionally, project management skills, team management skills and IT skills are all an asset for the vacancy.

The salary range will depend on experience, skills and working arrangement.
