Sustainable maritime affairs at the heart of Blue Economy Summer School

Last week, the OGS-EMUNI Summer School on Blue Economy in the Euro-Mediterranean Region took place in Trieste (Italy) and Piran (Slovenia). With a total of 37 participants from 24 countries in the region ( Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Egypt, France, Greece, Croatia, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Syria, Serbia, Spain, Tunisia and Trukey) between the ages of 25 and 35, the summer school discussions focused on offering solutions for blue economy in the areas of ecology and sustainable societies. Young experts shared their ideas and visions in the sector of blue economy in the Euro-Mediterranean, recognizing both the vulnerabilities of seas and oceans, and their potential for growth.

During the two days that participants spent in Slovenia, they met with experts in the field of marine and maritime questions, and participated in study visits of the coastal road between Izola and Koper, Škocjanski zatok natural reserve, Strunjan nature park and boat excursion to mussel farms.

This Summer School was co-organised by the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS, Italy) and the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI, Slovenia). The events in Slovenia were implemented in co-organization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.
