Inauguration of EKIC Algeria

EMUNI University proudly marked the inauguration of the EMUNI Knowledge & Innovation Centre (EKIC) in Algeria on 21 April. The event began with an official meeting with the Wali at his palace, followed by inaugural speeches and a guided visit to the TE-KIH facilities. Among the distinguished guests was Dr Urška Kramberger Mendek, the Slovenian Ambassador to Algeria.

In his keynote address, EMUNI President Prof. Dr. Rado Bohinc highlighted the significance of this milestone, which strengthens cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean through the flow of knowledge. He emphasised that EMUNI is not a traditional university, but rather a centre of excellence for master, doctoral and certificate specializations courses, a research institute, and a network connecting a multicultural academic space.

President Bohinc stressed that EMUNI’s academic approach combines rigorous research with real-world impact—from human-centred AI and sustainable development to high-performance sport science and multicultural corporate communication.

The importance of TE-KIH was framed through five key contributions:

  1. Integration of North-South Higher Education, with opportunities for long-term student and staff mobility and double degrees—especially welcoming Algerian students into EMUNI’s programmes.
  2. A hub for scientific research, including collaborative EU project applications involving universities like Tlemcen.
  3. A platform for Euro-Mediterranean dialogue and science diplomacy, contributing to initiatives such as the Pact for the Mediterranean and promoting alignment with the Bologna Process.
  4. A network for expert academic communities, supporting international collaboration on education and research.
  5. Stronger academia-industry links, including the creation of a Euro-Mediterranean network of business clubs to foster innovation and provide scholarships.

He concluded by thanking all those involved in making the initiative a reality, especially Dr. Omar Behadada, for his outstanding leadership as TE-KIH Coordinator.
