Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) Senate Session Highlights

July 15, 2024 – Piran, Slovenia – The Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) recently held its 48th Senate session, where several key initiatives and new study programmes were discussed and approved.

University Ongoing Activities

During the session, EMUNI President Prof. Dr. Rado Bohinc presented a comprehensive report on the university’s ongoing activities. The report emphasized three major areas of progress:

  1. Increasing the number of study programmes.
  2. Establishing five Knowledge Innovation Centres (KICs).
  3. Creating the Student Empowerment Foundation, aimed at enhancing student exchange and support, particularly among Northern Mediterranean countries.

Prof. Bohinc stressed the importance of developing new collaborative, double, or joint educational activities and programmes. Key steps outlined include exploring educational offers from EMUNI’s partner universities, preparing proposals to involve potential partners, creating joint study programmes, and accrediting these programs. He highlighted ongoing discussions for joint degrees, including a Social and Solidarity Economy program with the University of Sousse and a Blue Economy program with the University of Trieste.

A working group has been formed to develop proposals by autumn for at least five EMUNI Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) in countries/universities of the southern Mediterranean region.

Prof. Rado Bohinc shared that he met with the Minister of Higher Education to present an initiative for the establishment of an intergovernmental fund by nine Mediterranean countries. This fund aims to support students from the southern Mediterranean region who are pursuing studies at universities in the northern Mediterranean.

Additionally, Prof. Bohinc announced the appointment of Prof. Dr. Roberto Biloslavo as the new Vice President for Coordination of Study and Research Programs. 

Senate Adopts New Study Programmes

Master’s in Sport Management The proposed Master’s in Sport Management, developed in collaboration with the Science and Research Centre Koper, aims to include practical experience and collaboration with sports organizations, integrating technology management into the curriculum.

Master’s in Corporate Governance In collaboration with the Science and Research Centre Koper, EMUNI proposed a new Master’s Study Programme in Corporate Governance.

PhD in Corporate Governance Similarly, the PhD Study Programme in Corporate Governance, also in collaboration with the Science and Research Centre Koper, was approved for accreditation.

PhD in Kinesiology The Senate approved the proposal for a PhD Study Programme in Kinesiology, developed in collaboration with the Science and Research Centre Koper.

Master’s in Human Rights and Digitization Finally, the Senate approved the preliminary development of a Master’s Study Programme in Human Rights and Digitization.

These initiatives and new study programs represent significant steps forward for EMUNI in enhancing its educational offerings and fostering greater collaboration and innovation within the Euro-Mediterranean region. The university remains committed to its mission of promoting education, research, and intercultural exchange to strengthen regional stability and development.
