About EUNICoast

EMUNI University is a member of the European university alliance “The European University of Islands, Ports and Coastal Territories (EUNICoast)”, which brings together higher education institutions from across Europe to strengthen cooperation in education, research, and innovation related to island, coastal, and port regions.

Alongside EMUNI University (Slovenia), the alliance includes: Åland University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Burgas Free University (Bulgaria), Stralsund University of Applied Sciences (Germany), University of Dubrovnik (Croatia), University of the Azores (Portugal), University of the Balearic Islands (Spain), University of Patras (Greece), University of Sassari (Italy), University of the Faroe Islands (Faroe Islands), University of the French West Indies (France), West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin (Poland), and University of Le Havre Normandie (France), which serves as the alliance coordinator.

Six of the partner universities are located on islands, and all operate in coastal regions. The alliance focuses on research and knowledge transfer related to the sea, its benefits for society, and the importance of its preservation, with particular attention to the challenges faced by European islands, coasts, and port regions.

A key focus of the alliance is the development of a sustainable and resilient blue economy, addressing social, environmental, and economic challenges through collaborative research and education.

The mission of the EUNICoast Alliance is to introduce students and citizens to sustainable solutions for coastal and island societies, promote a multicultural, multilingual, and inclusive European academic environment, and strengthen capacities to respond to the social and environmental challenges faced by island and coastal communities.

The European Universities Initiative, under which EUNICoast operates, is part of a European Union programme designed to strengthen the international competitiveness and quality of European higher education, while promoting European values, mobility, and cooperation among universities.
