Maribor, 12 June 2026 – EMUNI University participated in the third session of the Rectors’ Conference of the Republic of Slovenia (RK RS), which was held under the presidency of the University of Maribor. EMUNI University was represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Rado Bohinc, who joined fellow university leaders in discussions on key issues shaping the future of higher education in Slovenia.
The meeting focused on several important topics, including urgent amendments to higher education legislation, particularly provisions relating to regulated professions. Participants also discussed the financial sustainability of both public and private higher education institutions and emphasized the need for the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth to prepare financing contracts for 2026 as soon as possible, taking into account all legal obligations and previous funding allocations.
Members of the Rectors’ Conference further highlighted the importance of adjusting the hourly rate for research activities financed by ARIS in line with rising salary costs. The Conference also called on the competent ministry to accelerate the preparation and adoption of all implementing regulations under the Higher Education Act (ZViS-1), with the active involvement of university representatives.
The session included an update on preparations for the Festival of Slovenian Universities UNI-SI, scheduled to take place in January 2027 at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre. The event will provide prospective students and the wider public with an opportunity to learn about study opportunities offered by Slovenian universities and will be held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar.
Participants also exchanged views on cohesion policy and received information about the work of the Monitoring Committee for the European Cohesion Policy Programme 2021–2027.
The session concluded with the formal handover of the leadership of the Rectors’ Conference from the Rector of the University of Maribor, Prof. Dr. Zdravko Kačič, to the newly elected Rector, Prof. Dr. Dean Korošak. The University of Maribor will continue to chair the Rectors’ Conference of the Republic of Slovenia until the end of 2027.
