Building the picture of the small-scale fishers’ markets in the Mediterranean

The LabMAF  project (Developing a labelling scheme for Mediterranean small-scale and artisanal fish products) held its first face-to-face meeting in Ljubljana on 15 and 16 May 2019.

The purpose of the meeting was to map and understand the various initiatives related to the promotion of the small-scale fishers’ products or shortening their supply chains. 15 experts from ten different countries were able to portray very different efforts taking place across the Mediterranean. The involved countries were Italy, Spain, Tunisia, France, Croatia, Portugal, Malta, Lebanon, Slovenia, and contributions were received also from Greece.

The meeting’s formal sessions and informal exchanges allowed the participants to appreciate the commonalities and differences between various efforts. As such, the meeting laid ground for the next phase of the project, including the next meeting to take place in autumn 2019.

An informal extension of the meeting took place at the Slovenian coast, bringing the meeting in close proximity with the theme of the project.
