Today, EMUNI University welcomed participants to Koper for the official opening of the Healthy and Active Lifestyle (HALS) Summer School 2026, launching a week dedicated to healthy lifestyles, human performance, physical activity and intercultural learning.
This year’s Summer School brings together students from Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Egypt, creating a diverse Euro-Mediterranean environment for academic exchange, intercultural dialogue and new connections.
Taking place from 7 to 11 September 2026, the Summer School is organised by EMUNI University in cooperation with the Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper), and Heliopolis University, bringing together students, academics and experts in an international and interdisciplinary learning environment.
The first day began at EMUNI University with a welcome and official opening by Prof. Dr. Rado Bohinc, President of EMUNI University. Participants then moved into the academic programme with introductory lectures by Prof. Dr. Rado Pišot on Dimensions of Contemporary Kinesiology and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saša Pišot on the Healthy Lifestyle Paradigm.
The afternoon programme turns the focus towards human performance, nutrition and health, with Assist. Prof. Dr. Kaja Teraž leading sessions on body composition, diet and exercise, and the Mediterranean diet.
Beyond the classroom, the opening day concludes with a guided tour of Koper led by Assist. Prof. Dr. Luka Juri, giving participants an opportunity to discover the city, connect with one another and experience the Mediterranean environment in which the Summer School is taking place.
A Week of Learning Through Experience
Over the coming days, participants will move between EMUNI University, ZRS Koper and field-based activities. The programme combines academic lectures with practical workshops and experiential learning, covering topics such as the neural control of movement, physical activity assessment, sarcopenia, digital and VR applications in health, sport systems and decision-making.
A full day of experiential learning will also introduce participants to Nordic walking and water sports, connecting the academic themes of the Summer School directly with movement and an active Mediterranean lifestyle.
The programme will additionally explore career and academic pathways, including opportunities for further study at EMUNI, before concluding on Friday with student presentations, final assessment and the awarding of certificates.
Participants who successfully complete the academic requirements of the Summer School, including its online and on-site components and final assessment, are eligible to receive a Transcript of Records for 3 ECTS, alongside their Certificate of Attendance.
HALS 2026 reflects EMUNI’s commitment to bringing together education, research, international cooperation and practical experience while creating opportunities for students from across the Mediterranean to learn, exchange perspectives and build lasting connections.
The HALS Summer School 2026 continues in Koper until 11 September, followed by an online evaluation and reflection session on 15 September 2026.
