Applying for the Temporary Residence Permit

Third-country nationals (all countries except EEA member states) that wish to enter the Republic of Slovenia and/or stay here for study purposes, are required to obtain a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP).

For all enrolled students the application for the residence permit will be submitted to the Administrative Unit in Slovenia on behalf of the student by EMUNI University.  The student signs a mandate for EMUNI to submit the application on their behalf. The application is submitted only after the enrolment has been completed.

When the student has obtained and prepared all the required documents (see list below) they should send originals by priority mail or courier (DHL, FedEX, GLS or similar) as soon as possible to: EMUNI University, Pristaniška ulica 14, 6000 Koper, Slovenia. Translation into Slovenian language of the criminal record certificate (and all other documents which are not in English language) may be coordinated per email with the translator and sent directly to EMUNI.

After submitting the application, the student must give their fingerprints at an Embassy of Republic of Slovenia in a country responsible for their country of residence. The permit will be delivered to the same Embassy for pickup.

Here is the list of documents you must prepare for applying for a Temporary Residence Permit:

1. Signed application form (.doc, .pdf, example)
2. Signature form (.pdf)
3. A colour copy of your passport (the passport must have validity extending beyond the planned period of residence in Slovenia by at least 3 months (photocopy to be officially certified), no need of translation.
4. Biometric colour photograph (35 x 45mm, fit for biometric documents).
5. Proof of valid health insurance in Slovenia for the entire stay but at least until the end of the academic year – insurance must be for at least 30.000 EUR coverage. If the insurance policy is not in English it must be officially translated into Slovene language.
6. Certificate of criminal record from home country. It must be legalised in your country (with an Apostille if your country is member of Hague convention if not it must be legalised by competent authority in your country) and at the Slovene Embassy. 7. Proof of sufficient financial means –  currently EUR 507,43 per month (aprox. 6,090/ Year). Students must present proof that you have enough funds available in the form of a Bank statement or statement of your parents/legal guardians, if they are obliged to support you by the law of your country or employment contract or sufficient means or a scholarship etc.

TRP charges by the Administrative Unit

• Fee for issuing or renewing a temporary residence permit for a student (form non-EU countries): EUR 50.00.
• Application fee: EUR 4.50.
• Printing for the card: EUR 15.47.

Total: EUR 69,97

EMUNI will pay the fees when submitting the application, students will be charged for the above by the university.

Short term visa

If a student already holds a valid short-term visa that permits entry into the European Union, they should bring all the required documentation and submit their Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) application in person at the relevant Administrative Unit upon arrival in Slovenia.
