Dr. Jihène Nouairi is an Assistant Professor, researcher, and project manager specializing in sustainable development, environmental sciences, and the sustainable blue economy. She currently serves at the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) in Slovenia as Director of the EMUNI Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Blue Economy and Ocean Governance and Director of the Master Programme in Eco-remediation and Sustainable Development. Her work focuses on marine sustainability, environmental risk assessment, circular economy solutions, and the development of innovative eco-materials for coastal and marine applications.
Dr. Nouairi has extensive international research experience through collaborations with institutions including the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS) in Italy, ICTP-Trieste, Ovidius University in Romania, and the University of Aveiro in Portugal. Her research mainly explores the valorization of industrial and mining waste into sustainable geopolymers and eco-friendly construction materials, particularly within the framework of the Sustainable Blue Economy. She has participated in and coordinated numerous European and international projects, including Erasmus+, PRIMA-related initiatives, Jean Monnet activities, and Mediterranean cooperation programmes.
Throughout her academic career, Dr. Nouairi has authored and presented numerous scientific publications and conference contributions on environmental remediation, geopolymers, marine sustainability, and science diplomacy. She is actively involved in international scientific networks, student supervision, capacity-building activities, and interdisciplinary collaborations across the Mediterranean region. Her work combines scientific research, policy dialogue, education, and stakeholder engagement to support sustainable and resilient coastal and marine ecosystems.
