Short Bio

Blaž Lenarčič, PhD, is Assistant Professor and a Research Associate. He graduated at the Faculty of Social Sciences from the University of Ljubljana (UL) in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. In 2004, he obtained his Master’s degree from the Faculty of Social Sciences at UL and in 2009, was awarded PhD at the same faculty. In 2006, Professor Lenarčič took up his position at the Centre for Theoretical Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of UL. In 2007, he started his position at the University of Primorska, at the Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS), where he participated in several international research projects, and at the Faculty of Humanities, where he worked as a lecturer in the Department of Media Studies and the Department of Cultural Studies and Anthropology. In 2011, Professor Lenarčič joined the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information, before becoming a lecturer on the Applied Kinesiology programme. 

Based on his research accomplishments, Professor Lenarčič was awarded the Science and Research Centre’s Messenger of Science Award for Young Perspective Researchers in 2010. He is the author of several scientific publications dealing with the impact of information and communication technologies on contemporary society, spatial sociology and on migration issues. He is also the author of the scientific monograph Social Capital in Virtual Communities. In 2013, Professor Lenarčič was visiting scholar at the University of Canterbury (Christchurch, New Zealand). 

In addition to his research and pedagogical activities, Professor Lenarčič was also a member of the Governmental Commission for the Management of Genetically Modified Organisms (2011-2013), an elected member of the Presidency of the Slovenian Sociological Association (2016 – 2022), and has been a member of the Commission for Equal Opportunities at ZRS Koper since 2021, as well as of the Editorial Board of the scientific journals Družboslovne razprave and Esperienze sociali since 2018 and 2017 respectively.
