MEET EMUNI INTERN ANTONIO MONTIEL

23-year-old Antonio Montiel Valero is the latest addition to the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) team – at least temporarily!

A native of Lorca in Spain, Antonio is in his last year of a Bachelor´s degree in International Relations at the University of Murcia. Currently doing a three-month Erasmus + internship in Project Management at EMUNI, Antonio has been busy helping the Erasmus Department plan its very first Erasmus International Week, which will take place from 5 – 9 June, including dealing with visa applications for visitors and activity planning.  He has also been working closely with the Education Department in planning and administration, under his mentor, Alenka Breznik, EMUNI Study Affairs Coordinator.  Given his strong interest in project work, the EMUNI team has also given Antonio the opportunity to shadow a project coordinator for a Horizon Europe project.

Antonio will also be involved in the University´s 15th Anniversary and Annual Conference, which will run from 8-9 June in Piran, giving him an overview of the stages of a large-scale event.

We asked Antonio a few questions about his internship and time in Piran so far:

1. How did you hear about the EMUNI internship?
´´I heard about the offer through my university, which posted it on our web platform for internships. ´´

2. Why did you apply for the EMUNI internship?
´´I applied, because I thought the opportunity would help me to improve my knowledge of project management at an institution that is international and not only a university, but also is a network and research hub that works on other different and interesting projects. Obviously, the location too was a bonus! ´´

3. What do you like most about Slovenia?
´´I enjoy hiking and the great thing about Slovenia is there are so many mountains to climb or just for walking. Also, the location of the country is perfect for exploring neighbouring areas, including Croatia and Italy. Everything is close – the sea, the woods, and of course mountains. ´´

4. How has the internship benefited you so far?
´´This internship is helping me deepen my knowledge of how project management works in a practical way and is showing me the skills needed to manage an international institution. I am also improving my communication skills in English! ´´

5. What do you want to do in the future?
´´I hope to work in something related to project management or foreign affairs.´´
