Sophie is a Cambridge Language Assessment-qualified English instructor, and teaches English for business and specific industries, as well as academic and general English. As a proofreader and translator, she focuses on research articles, business documents and websites while narrating videos and adverts. She also has experience in journalism, marketing and sales copywriting. Sophie started working at EMUNI from September 2020 as the External Affairs and Outreach Manager.
Qualifying as an English teacher in 2009, she spent time in the UK teaching foreign mature students of all nationalities before acting as a Pre-Sessional English Tutor for Royal Holloway University (University of London). Since moving to Slovenia in 2014, she has been an English Teacher, working independently and in-company, as well as specialising in Cambridge exam preparation (FCE, CAE, IELTS, BEC). Sophie also engages in proofreading for all types of business documents, research articles, websites and blogs. Occasionally working as a Video Narrator & Speaker for TV and documentary projects, Sophie has appeared in several adverts. Before her English teaching career, she qualified as a journalist and gained media experience as a researcher/interviewer from 2007-2009 at the BBC World Service, BBC Radio Northampton, Radio City 96.7 FM (Liverpool), Channel 4 News, and Atlantic FM (Cornwall).
From 2012-2014, Sophie studied for the Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (DELTA) through the British Council, International House London & Bell Cambridge, UK. The course covered areas such as English language, methodology, and professional practice, while her specialism was in English for journalists. Prior to this, she gained her Master of Arts in Broadcast Journalism in 2007 at the University College Falmouth, UK, through which she was trained in scripting, television & radio presenting/production, interviewing, law & politics. As an undergraduate, her Bachelor of Arts in History with 1st class honours was completed in 2004 at The London School of Economics & Political Science, UK, for which she studied early modern, modern European and colonial history. At the same time, she gained a Certificate of Proficiency in French (Media).
Sophie is an English native speaker, and also speaks French, Italian and Slovene.
