Blue Growth in the Euro-Mediterranean Region Summer School 2018

Blue Growth in the Euro-Mediterranean Region Summer School 2018 was held at EMUNI, Piran and OGS, Trieste with combined distance learning. It lasted 17 days and more than 20 people attended it. The objective of the summer school was to introduce the participants to the significance of blue growth for the Euro-Mediterranean region and thereby impact their future careers or studies.
Sustainable development driven by the blue economy is a shared vision for the Euro-Mediterranean area and of concern to both northern and southern Mediterranean countries. The blue economy is a long-term strategy of the EU for the marine and maritime sectors and the issue of blue growth became one of the key areas of EMUNI’s strategic orientation in November 2017 with the organisation of a pilot training course on blue growth for young professionals from the region.
The summer school was co-founded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) within the framework of the Western Mediterranean Forum (Dialogue 5+5), and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).
