EMUNI and Antonine University Agree to Cooperate More Closely

Between 28 February and 4 March, EMUNI welcomed the Antonine University delegation’s visit in the framework of Erasmus+ Mobility Exchanges. President Dr Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry and EMUNI’s Head of Academic Affairs, Dr Jerneja Penca welcomed Dr Rony Darazi and Dr Michel Jalakh, rector of the Lebanese institution.

The visit was an opportunity to reciprocate the hospitality that the Antonine University previously extended to our colleagues last summer. EMUNI and Antonine University already collaborated on EMUNI’s Med2Iah project. However, this visit allowed to set the basis for even greater Euro-Mediterranean integration in the field of Higher Education. In fact, this week’s visit brought EMUNI and the Antonine University even closer together. At the top discussions’ agenda were the ways in which our two institutions could cooperate further.

The meeting proved succesful as the representative from the Antonine Univeristy agreed to join EMUNI’s network of partner organisations. The commitment was finalised through the signing of a letter of intent to become member of our General Assembly. This partnership is but the beginning of further cooperation.

Collaboration will include common efforts in the disciplines of Intercultural Business Communication and Entrepreneurship programs. Moreover, our two institutions look forward to expanding current activities in the field of Physical therapy. Indeed, the meeting identified Sport science and engineering as key disciplines to address emerging societal challenges in the Euro Mediterranean region.

The visit did not limit itself to the business of furthering our partnership. In fact, our guests were able to visit Piran and Koper. Himself a man of the cloth, Dr Jalakh visited St. George’s monastery and met with Don Zorko Bajc, head of the Parish of Piran. Bajc, who oversees the city’s churches explained the history of Piran, as well as the activities and projects involving his congregation.

At EMUNI, on this side of the Mediterranean, we cherish the opportunity to work closer with the Antonine University and we look forward to common projects.
